Keyboardist and producer Yoni Mayraz returns with an anticipated new album, ’Dogs Bark Babies Cry’ set for release on September 5th 2025, via PPK Records (run by Pino Palladino & David Passick). The follow-up to his breakout debut ‘Dybbuk Tse!’ sees Mayraz pushing his singular sound into deeper, wilder territory.
‘Dogs Bark Babies Cry’ stands for “the moment when a commotion takes place. Dogs start barking, babies cry. It’s an ominous sound, yet a natural one. One that can be heard from afar,” explains Mayraz.
Recorded at the legendary Konk Studios in North London, the album captures a unique moment in time. Making full use of the dark wooden acoustics and vintage gear, each track was recorded live, with different guest artists joining across the session. The result is a bold statement, built on tightly structured compositions and grooves, weaving together elements of 90s hip-hop, Middle Eastern textures, and electronic soundscapes, while echoing the sound of the great 70s jazz-funk trios.
Backed by long-time collaborators and touring partners, bassist Tom Driessler (Yussef Dayes, Jordan Rakei) and drummer Zoe Pascal, and featuring a cast of standout guests including Fly Anakin, Tenderlonious, Miriam Adefris, JSPHYNX and Callum Connell, the record showcases Mayraz at his most daring and refined.
“it’s full of feeling,” says Mayraz. “The whole album is an exploration of internal tension - fears and desires, beauty and decay.”
Following global acclaim for Dybbuk Tse!, named “one of the best jazz records of the year” by SF Jazz and supported by KEXP, BBC 6 Music, Bandcamp Weekly, and CLASH, Mayraz embarked on extensive touring, performing at prestigious venues and festivals including Montreux Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cafe, Brussels Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s and more.
‘Dogs Bark Babies Cry’ offers a dense yet delicate listening experience. It's a powerful work that further cements Yoni Mayraz as one of the most vital new voices in contemporary jazz and instrumental music today.

Unlike any other. Its feel is both reflective and down to earth, and the compositions are easily differentiated despite their relative shortness. Not only a pleasure to listen to, this album is rhythmically complex, but not in a maddening, hard to process way. Also, very clever album title. ianjworsomething
